Discovery
The attacker tactic of exploring a compromised environment to learn about it, enumerating systems, accounts, networks, and defenses, to plan the next moves like lateral movement and privilege escalation.
Once inside, attackers rarely know the environment, so discovery is the reconnaissance they perform from within: listing hosts, users, groups, shares, running software, and security tools to map what is reachable and valuable and how to proceed. As a MITRE ATT&CK tactic, discovery often precedes lateral movement and escalation, and its activity, unusual enumeration commands or queries, can be detected as an early sign of an intrusion in progress.

Examples
- Enumerating domain accounts and groups after gaining a foothold.
- Listing network shares and reachable hosts to find targets.
- Querying for installed security tools to plan evasion.
