Security as Code

Expressing security configuration, policies, and controls as code that is versioned, tested, and deployed alongside applications, so security is automated and consistent rather than manually managed.

Security as code applies software-engineering discipline to security: version control, code review, automated testing, and continuous deployment for security policies, configurations, and controls. It spans policy-as-code, configuration-as-code, and detection-as-code, and produces auditability, repeatability, and faster, safer change. Across cloud workload protection and DevSecOps, security as code is how mature teams scale and sustain security across many systems and rapid change.

Introduced in: Cloud Workload Protection, DevSecOps and Secure SDLC

Examples

  • Defining cloud workload-protection policies as code in version control.
  • Reviewing and testing security changes like any application code.
  • Deploying detections and policies through CI/CD pipelines.
