Automated Provisioning Implementation
Building the systems and workflows that automatically create, update, and remove user access as people join, change roles, or leave, replacing manual account setup with rules driven by an authoritative identity source.
Manual provisioning is slow and error-prone, leaving orphaned accounts and excess access, so automation ties account changes to HR or directory events. Implementing it well means defining authoritative sources, mapping roles to access, and handling exceptions, which improves both security and efficiency.
Introduced in: IAM Capstone: Building an Identity Program
Examples
- Automatically creating accounts and access when HR marks a new hire as started.
- Removing all access automatically the day an employee's termination is recorded.
- Updating a user's access when their role attribute changes.
