Case Management System
The tool a SOC uses to create, track, and document investigation cases, holding alerts, evidence, actions, and outcomes in one place. It provides structure, accountability, and an audit trail for security operations.
A case management system (often part of a SOAR or ticketing platform) centralizes investigative work so cases are organized, assignable, and traceable. It supports handoffs, enforces process, and generates the metrics and audit records that let a SOC measure and improve its operations.
Introduced in: SOC Analyst Fundamentals
Examples
- Tracking all open investigations and their owners in one platform.
- Documenting evidence and actions against a case for later audit.
- Generating metrics on case volume and resolution time from the system.
