CIAM Build vs Buy
The decision of whether to build a custom customer identity system or adopt a commercial CIAM platform. It weighs control and customization against the cost, time, and security burden of building and maintaining identity in-house.
Customer identity is hard to do safely, requiring secure authentication, fraud defense, consent, and scale. Buying a CIAM platform offloads much of that to specialists, while building offers maximum control but means owning all the security and maintenance. The choice depends on requirements, resources, and risk tolerance.
