CIAM Evaluation Criteria
The factors used to compare and select a customer identity platform, such as scalability, authentication options, fraud and bot defense, privacy and consent features, developer experience, and total cost. They turn a vague 'which CIAM?' into a structured decision.
Because CIAM platforms vary widely, a buyer needs explicit criteria rather than a feature checklist alone. Key dimensions include how the platform scales to customer volume, which authentication methods (including passwordless and passkeys) it supports, how it handles fraud, consent, and data subject rights, how easily developers can integrate it, and what it costs at scale. Weighing these against the organization's actual use cases is what separates a good fit from an expensive mismatch.
