Assessment Planning

The preparation that precedes a security assessment: clarifying objectives and scope, identifying targets and constraints, scheduling, and gathering the access and information needed so the assessment runs efficiently.

Planning prevents wasted effort and surprises by deciding in advance what will be assessed, with what tools, and against what criteria. Good planning also secures authorization and aligns the assessment with the risks the organization actually cares about.

Introduced in: Security Analyst Fundamentals

Examples

  • Listing target systems and the access required before starting.
  • Choosing which assessment activities fit the time and authorization granted.
  • Defining success criteria so the assessment stays focused on real risk.
