Azure AD Privileged Hardening
Securing the high-privilege roles and identities in Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), such as Global Administrators, by limiting their number, enforcing strong and phishing-resistant MFA, and using just-in-time elevation through Privileged Identity Management.
Cloud identity directories are prime targets, and a compromised Global Admin can mean tenant-wide control. Hardening reduces standing privilege through PIM, enforces conditional access and strong MFA on admins, and monitors privileged role activity, mirroring on-premises tiering in the cloud.
Introduced in: Directory Services Security
Examples
- Requiring just-in-time activation of Global Admin via PIM instead of permanent assignment.
- Enforcing phishing-resistant MFA on all privileged accounts.
- Limiting the number of standing Global Administrators in a tenant.
