Bot Protection in CIAM

Defenses in customer identity systems against automated abuse such as credential stuffing, fake account creation, and scraping. Because CIAM faces the open internet, distinguishing real users from bots is a core security need.

Customer-facing login and signup are constantly probed by bots running stolen credentials or creating fraudulent accounts. Bot protection layers signals, rate limiting, device intelligence, CAPTCHAs, and risk scoring, to block automation while keeping friction low for legitimate customers.

Introduced in: Customer Identity and Access Management

Examples

  • Blocking a credential-stuffing wave hitting the customer login endpoint.
  • Detecting and stopping mass automated fake-account signups.
  • Adding a risk-based challenge only when bot signals are high.
