CIAM Threat Landscape
The specific threats facing customer identity systems, including credential stuffing, account takeover, fake-account creation, bot-driven abuse, and fraud. Because CIAM is internet-facing and serves untrusted users, it absorbs attacks that workforce IAM rarely sees.
Customer login and registration endpoints are continuously attacked at scale: criminals replay breached credentials, automate fake signups, hijack accounts for their stored value, and probe for fraud opportunities. The defining feature is volume and anonymity, anyone on the internet can attack, so defenses lean on bot protection, risk-based authentication, fraud integration, and phishing-resistant methods rather than the trust assumptions enterprise IAM can make.
