Remediation Verification

Confirming that a vulnerability or finding has actually been fixed, by retesting or re-scanning, so issues aren't closed in trackers while still exploitable in reality.

Remediation verification is the final, often skipped step: actually checking that the fix worked. It may involve retesting the original vulnerability, re-scanning, reviewing configuration, or assessing the control's operation. Without verification, closed-out findings can mask issues still present, undermining trust in remediation data. As both a security-analyst and assessment-methodology practice, it ensures the gap between reported and real security stays narrow.
