Role Mining Tools
Software tools that automate role mining, clustering entitlements, identifying candidate roles, and presenting them for review, making large-scale role engineering practical for sizeable organizations.
Manual role mining doesn't scale beyond small environments, so role-mining tools, often part of IGA platforms, ingest entitlement data and apply clustering and analysis to suggest candidate roles for human review. They speed the methodology, surface patterns analysts might miss, and let organizations iterate rather than build by hand. Selecting and using these tools effectively is a practical IGA skill, especially in big environments with millions of access assignments to make sense of.
Introduced in: Identity Governance and Administration
Examples
- Using an IGA tool's mining feature to suggest candidate roles.
- Clustering thousands of users' entitlements automatically for review.
- Iterating on tool-suggested roles with business-owner input.
