OIDC Federation
OIDC federation lets one platform accept signed identity claims from a trusted OpenID Connect issuer and exchange them for access without a copied long-lived credential.
Security depends on validating issuer, audience, subject, signature, time, and narrowly matched context claims, then issuing a short-lived credential with least-privileged scope.
Introduced in: Privileged Access Management
Examples
- GitHub Actions federated to an AWS role
- Kubernetes service account federated to cloud IAM
