MDR

Managed Detection and Response: a service in which an external provider monitors a customer's environment, detects threats, and assists with response, often 24/7, giving organizations advanced security operations without building it all in-house.

MDR providers deliver outsourced security monitoring and response: their analysts watch the customer's telemetry, run detections and hunts, triage alerts, and assist with containment and remediation, typically around the clock. MDR sits between traditional MSSPs (often more monitoring-only) and a full in-house SOC, and it is a common way smaller or growing organizations gain mature operations quickly. Integration, defining responsibilities, and clear handoffs with the internal team determine how well MDR delivers value.
